All about the Goechala Trek

GoechaLa trek is nestled at a height of 16,207 ft, with a closer look at the third-highest peak-Mt. Kanchenjunga. It is a dream and desire for hundreds of adventure lovers. Bounded by the mesmerizing flora and fauna, which are so vibrant and colourful to cheer up one's mood. The biggest highlight of the Goechala trek is the sunrise scene on the Kanchenjunga range. Though trekkers are not allowed to the actual Goecha Pass, the view from ViewPoint 1 and Dzongri is vey breathtaking. The trail to Goechala is filled with rhododendron forests. It’s an enormously pleasant walk through the wooden-log trails of these jungles! The trek promises a brilliant close-up of the third highest mountain in the world and offers breathtaking views of the Singalila range from Dzongri Top. Samiti Lake is another big highlight on the Goechala trek. The reflection of Mt. Pandim in the lake, especially in the early hours, is a visual treat.

Exclusions:

  • Transportation to and fro from NJP Railway Station or Bagdogra Airport is available on request on additional charges.
  • Climatic conditions in the high altitudes vary from the plains; take adequate time to get acclimatized to high altitudes.
  • Carry basic medications and a first-aid kit during the Goechala Pass Trek.
  • Porters or helpers to carry Central Equipments
  • You can also offload your backpack by paying extra. Your bag should not weigh more than 9 kgs.
  1. Day 1Drive from Bagdogra Airport/NJP to Yuksom (5,670ft)

    Begin the trek by catching the remarkable views of the Himalayas while driving from Bagdogra Airport/NJP to Yuksom. The drive will take you along the Teesta River and continuing uphill by crossing a bridge in Legship to reach Yuksom. Arriving at Yuksom, check-in into a hotel, and retire for the day.

  2. Day 2Trek from Yuksom to Sachen (7,150ft)

    Today will be the first day of this Goechala pass trek. Wake up and start ascending uphill and follow the gourges of the Rathong River. Trekking through the lush forest of rhododendron, and ferns, proceed towards the Paha Khola Bridge. On the way, relish a packed lunch and be energized for the rest of the trek. Arrive in Sachen, settle down at the campsite and call it a day.

  3. Day 3Trek from Sachen to Tshokha (9,700ft) (via Bhakim/8,600ft)

    The trek for the day will take you through the viburnum plantations, after which you will cross the Prek Chu River and hike uphill for around 2-3 hours to reach Bakhim. After trekking some more, you will finally reach Tshoka, the Tibetan refugee settlement; overnight stay will be in a camp.

  4. Day 4Trek from Tshoka (9,650 ft) – Dzongri (12,980 ft) via Phedang (12,050 ft)

    You can expect well-laid trails on the way. Moving from here, a short trek will take you to Dzongri, where you will spend an overnight stay in camps.

  5. Day 5Trek from Dzongri (12,980 ft) – Dzongri Top (13,675 ft)

    Trek from Dzongri (12,980 ft) – Dzongri Top (13,675 ft) and back to Dzongri and then to Thansing (12,930 ft) via Kokchurang (12,100 ft) .Post breakfast in the Phedang campsite, there is another scenic uphill trek, and you will cross 4,000m in the Himalayas! Get acclimatized to the higher altitudes. A further climb after acclimatization will finally take you to the Thansing overnight campsite area, from where you have mesmerizing views of the Koktang, Rathong, Kabru, Khangchendzonga, Simvo, and Pandim peaks.

  6. Day 6Trek from Thansing (12,930 ft) – Lamuney (13,700 ft)

    Waking up in the morning, you can either spend the day relaxing in the camp or just take up a short exploration around the camp. The day is much required as you must get acclimatized to the higher altitudes before gaining further height.Enjoy your overnight stay in camps.

  7. Day 7Trek from Lamuney (13,700 ft) – Goechala (15,100 ft) and back to Kokchurang (12,100 ft)

    Start the day early to avoid the harsh climatic conditions that might hinder your course in the latter part of the day. Climbing uphill through the moraines, you will then be descending to Samiti Lake and then cross the Zemathang Plateau. Ascend over a moraine from here and after trekking for another 1 hour, you will reach the Goecha La Pass view point 1. Arrive at this magnificent pass and behold the beautiful views of the Kanchenjunga and other distant peaks before you start moving back towards kokchurang for an overnight stay camp.

  8. Day 8Trek from Kokchurang (12,100 ft) – Tshoka (9,650 ft) via Phedang (12,050 ft)

    Wake up early in the morning, enjoy the enchanting views of the Kanchenjunga Peak from a nearby ridge and start trekking back towards Tshoka. Today, you will take a route through the Dzongri Plateau, in order to avoid the long climb. The trail passes through Prek Chu and the forests of Phedang. Arrive in Tshoka, settle down in the overnight stay camps.

  9. Day 9Trek from Tshoka (9,650 ft) – Yuksom (5,800 ft) via Bakhim (8,600 ft) and Sachen (7,200 ft)

    Today, descend through the Prek Chu River, you will arrive in Yuksom, the last destination of this Goechala trek package. Check-in into a local hotel, and spend the rest of the day at leisure.

  10. Day 10Departure from Yuksom

    Goechala trek package ends here. After having breakfast in the hotel, prepare your bags and check-out from the hotel.
